Lovecraft Country wrapped up its first season Sunday night on HBO, delivering another hour of the show’s signature blend of hellfire, some form of ritualistic sacrifice, and some cool-as-hell sci-fi surprise. Yes, our heroes make out pretty good in the end—Leti defeats Christina, Dee, um, really defeats Christina, and Ji-Ah heroically comes back to save the day. It all comes at the expense of Tic, though, who actually does die, which still felt surprising even if it was forecasted to us for so long. “With Atticus’s arc, I wanted to explore the idea of a meaningful sacrifice,” said Lovecraft Country’s creator, Misha Green, to Deadline.
