All hail Professor Swift. Along with the long list of achievements Taylor Swift has (you know, all of the Grammys, records broken, Joe Alwyn, etc…), she can now add the title of NYU Commencement speaker and honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa degree to her resume. The superstar took to the stage at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday dolled in a purple and black NYU graduation gown and her classic red lip to address the graduating Class of 2022 (yes, 22). The decision to name Swift as speaker does not come as much of a surprise given her influence and reputation as a remarkable creative in the music industry. In fact, Swift herself was the subject of an NYU course at the Clive Davis Institute of Recording Arts that covered her evolution as an artist, the legacy of pop and country songwriters, commentary on politics of race, girlhood and more. Adding to this, her love for and commitments to New York City, she comes as a pretty natural choice for NYU.In recent years, Swift has seemingly slowed down and focused on re-releasing her older albums. After having dropped Red (Taylor’s Version) last November, there is much speculation about what is set to come next. In this year, however, Swift has already released a couple of singles from 1989 (Taylor’s Version), but it is still unclear which album she’ll be re-releasing in full next.
