Destiny 2Bungie Destiny 2 just debuted its Root of Nightmares raid this weekend, opening up a “Contest Mode” version that kept players 20 under power for the first 48 hours, extending the “day one” clear potential to…two days. Bungie said this was to protect the health of the playerbase, which may have worked, but it’s also sparked a big debate in the community. As it turns out way, way more people cleared Root of Nightmares on Contest Mode than any previous raid race window (World’s First was won by Team Hard in the Paint in under 2.5 hours). Destiny has had wild swings for its World First races in the past. Only two teams cleared Forsaken’s Last Wish within the first 24 hours. More recently, 6,829 people cleared Vow of the Disciple on day one, last expansion’s raid. But Lightfall’s Root of Nightmares? 45,541 people.
