Thanks to HBO, 2023 is already off to a good start. (The Last of Us, anyone?) Back in December, the streamer released a teaser for their upcoming television slate. As expected, we’ll receive another season of Succession and Winning Time, along with The Weeknd’s highly anticipated series, The Idol. But the sizzle reel also featured a surprise. This year, HBO will drop True Detective: Night Country, starring none other than former Esquire intern, Jodie Foster.For the uninitiated, True Detective is a crime anthology series. Each season follows a new detective (or two), who is tasked with hunting down a murderer—while of course, battling their own demons. True Detective has always employed an impressive cast, featuring actors like Matthew McConaughey, Rachel McAdams, Woody Harrelson, and Mahershala Ali. So, it only makes sense that Foster was tapped to lead the next chapter of the show.
